This is Gonna leave a mark

You’ve likely seen athletes and movie stars and maybe even the woman up the street who always looks like she’s glowing with health sporting the telltale cupping marks on their backs. But it’s so much more than just a trend for celebrities; cupping is used to treat musculoskeletal chronic pain, especially back pain and headaches, relieve inflammation, and as a method of detoxification. Other indications include the common cold with cough, asthma, headache, dizziness and digestive disorders.

How Cupping Therapy Works

At Treehouse Acupuncture, we place medical grade plastic or glass cups strategically on your back to create an intense pressure that sucks your skin inward, drawing blood and fluids to the surface of the skin to encourage the lymphatic system to eliminate wastes embedded deep in your tissues. It feels like a small octopus grabbing hold.

How long will the marks last?

Depending on your skin type, cupping will leave painless bruise-like marks on your skin that can last anywhere from a few days to a few weeks. Also, the severity of your marks are not connected to the quality of the treatment you receive; it’s an entirely unique, personal response to the pressure, often indicating the severity of your body’s tension.

Is it worth it?

We think so, and our patients agree. When cupping is combined with acupuncture, they work together to discover and treat the root cause of your pain.
